I know I don't really blog much about my personal life - this journal has morphed into a kind of HP fic/manip archive sometime in the last year or so, which may be a good thing, but not what I actually intended at all when I set up an LJ account!

I realise I don't know a lot about the people who've been kind enough to friend me, and you guys probably don't know much about me either! (e.g. where I come from, what I do for a living, how I got involved in H/D, things I like to eat in bed, etc. etc.)

So... when I saw anthimaeria's post on the Things I Don't Blog About meme, I thought enough was enough - it's time to out myself a little (to my flist at least!) :D

I've got a couple of fic fests lined up (H/D and AS/S) and - newly inspired by pushdragon 's Big Style Post of Doom - I realise I desperately need a beta to:

• Kick my arse when I'm procrascinating
  
• Cull tendencies towards adverbs / verbosity / obscure trains of thought
• Scupper complacency / laziness when it comes to plot
• Police grammar / sloppy dialogue
  
• Encourage insane ideas

I would love to find a (possibly long-term?) beta from the depths of my flist, ideally a dragon lady with a GSoH who will scare me into producing better, lusher work. Neurotic grammar freaks and love of detail a plus.

Any takers? :)

Poems on the Underground

Here it is, my contribution to the magnificent wellspring of fandom talent that is hd_holidays *bounces*

(Really, this story is about London, written in London, when I was consumed by wistfulness for London. Hence the title, in honour of pockets of poetry found in the unlikeliest of places)

God, after I returned from London I have been suffering from strange, erratic night-time heebie-jeebies - no sleep on Monday, 4 hours on Tuesday, 10 hours on Wednesday and, well, here we are - insomnia with a vengeance. Have to clamber out of bed in about...3 hours yet I feel wide awake enough to jiggy madly around my bedroom (but not however, with the curtains wide open...there's method to this madness)

I was loitering about the male fashion model websites (as you do) when an especially delicious specimen of pretty-boyhood leapt out of me from my laptop screen. A swift photoshop make-over later and voila! I have my first tribute to my secondary Potter-ship - and oh I am incorrigible.

Not posting this anywhere because...well, frankly I am just too embarrassed. *skips niftily away*

Had afternoon tea at the Pump Room in Bath today. Mmm, scones. Scones and clotted cream! *ecstasy*

And lo, after a long interlude, here it is - new fic! *strokes the shininess*

The Art of Losing

*dips a toe into tentative LJ-waters*

Kenny G will always remind me of art class, coaxing daydreams from plastic tubes. 

O the wonders of poster colours and linoleum floors; sunshine-shadowed corridors.

Students in blue and grey uniforms, like parking attendants, setting music to paper.

God I'm so lazy. I just counted that I have - three! - so-so serious plot-bunnies madly leaping about my hard drive. 

However, instead of focusing my energies and actually finishing a decent-length sized fic for once, here I am, once again burrowing under the duvet after a semi-long day at work. (Hallo, duvet!)

(As a random aside, I was thinking during work today how nice it would've been to work for the East India Company - well, if it still existed. To set sail once more I suppose, for the Spice Islands, and trade sweet-smelling peppers and cloves for their weight in gold... why is worklife today so tame? *wails*)

And lo! She bringeth more (belated) Christmassy fluff!
